“The LearnAVT course provided me with a comprehensive foundation in Auditory Verbal Therapy (AVT), significantly enhancing my skills and confidence in this field. The meticulously structured curriculum covered essential areas such as AVT principles, developmental milestones, assessments, listening strategies & techniques, and caregiver coaching to name a few. One of the most impactful aspects of the course was the improvement in my lesson planning. I learned to prioritize setting goals first and then plan activities that effectively support those objectives. The course also taught me how to use toys, themes, and materials appropriately based on age, targets, and needs.
Each topic had videos and thoughtfully designed assignments and quizzes, ensuring that knowledge was thoroughly ingrained. Observing videos of Shefali’s sessions was incredibly valuable, as it provided real-time examples of how to conduct sessions and apply AVT strategies in practice. This practical exposure helped me better understand the topics and get ideas on how to conduct my own sessions.
Additionally, recording my own sessions for the video submissions/ assignments helped me overcome the initial discomfort of being on camera, increasing my confidence in documenting sessions for my Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS) certification. The ongoing supervision and feedback received was insightful in refining and enhancing my effectiveness in conducting sessions and understanding my strengths and weaknesses. The interactions with fellow students during meet & share further enriched my learning experience, offering diverse perspectives on various approaches.
The LearnAVT course is self-paced but can often be demanding, requiring a significant commitment of weekly hours to keep up with assignment deadlines, quizzes, and video observations. Shefali’s accommodating approach and providing extra time for video submissions greatly alleviates these pressures.
